Manjushree (Sanskrit: Mañjuśrī) embodies transcendent wisdom (prajñā) in Mahāyāna Buddhism.
In Nepalese tradition, he is revered as the mythical founder of the Kathmandu Valley, said to have cut through the hill of Chobar with his sword to drain the primordial lake — an act symbolizing the liberation of the mind from ignorance.

In this depiction, Manjushree performs the dharmachakra mudrā, the gesture of teaching and setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion.
His flaming sword rests upon his right shoulder, a sign of perpetual awareness and insight, while a lotus rises at his left, sometimes supporting the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, the scripture of “Perfect Wisdom.”
This serene posture conveys the clarity of mind and spiritual transmission central to Himalayan Buddhist thought.
