This finely cast gilt copper alloy sculpture, richly gilded with 24 karat gold, represents Green Tara, the female Bodhisattva of compassion and swift action in Tibetan Buddhism.
Seated in a relaxed posture (lalitasana), with one leg slightly extended, Green Tara is depicted in a dynamic and responsive attitude, ready to assist beings in overcoming obstacles and fears.
Her right hand is extended in the gesture of generosity (varada mudra), while the left hand is raised in a gesture of protection and refuge. Lotus flowers rise gracefully on either side of the figure, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening.
The face is serene and expressive, with a gentle smile and refined features that convey compassion and inner calm.
Show MoreThe surface retains a warm gilding, with natural areas of wear revealing the underlying copper, enhancing the depth and character of the sculpture. The subtle patina contributes to its antique-style appearance.
Executed in the traditional Himalayan style, this sculpture reflects the refined craftsmanship of Newar artisans and the enduring iconography of sacred Buddhist art.
