This finely cast gilt copper alloy sculpture, gilded with 24 karat gold, represents Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha, depicted here in bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture.
Seated in vajra posture, the Buddha extends his right hand toward the ground, calling the earth to witness his enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree. His left hand rests in his lap holding an alms bowl, symbolizing renunciation and the monastic path.
This moment represents the victory over Mara and the attainment of awakening, one of the most significant events in Buddhist tradition. The composition conveys both stillness and spiritual strength.
The figure is rendered with refined modeling, featuring a serene expression, softly defined features, and harmonious proportions. The monastic robe is elegantly draped over the shoulder in accordance with classical representations.

Executed in the traditional Himalayan style, this piece reflects the craftsmanship and iconographic precision of Newar artisans while evoking the refined aesthetic of older devotional works.
