This statue was part of the exhibition in the Patan Museum: "The Revival of Newari Woodcarving, 2024".

Tara (which in sanskrit means a “star”) is one of the most important figures in Buddhism. She is a representation of the female aspect of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion and according to some versions would have been born from his own tears. She is used as a mediation deity by practitioners for developing some qualities such as compassion, kindness, and love. /span>

There are various manifestations of the Tara deity. Green Tara is one of the most popular representations, together with the White Tara.

The green color is a blend of white, yellow, and blue, that respectively represents the action of pacifying, increasing, and destroying, to protect all beings. It symbolizes enlightened activity, wisdom, and compassion in action.
