Wood: magnolia champaca

This magnificent Basundhara Mandala, devoted to the goddess of prosperity and abundance, is a masterpiece of Newar woodcarving, entirely hand-carved from magnolia champaca wood by a master woodcarver of Bungmati, Nepal.
Basundhara – “the Earth Supporter” – is revered in Tantric Buddhism as the dispenser of both material and spiritual wealth. She is often depicted with six hands, holding symbols of generosity and fertility.

The mandala, a sacred geometric form, represents the cosmic order centered on the deity. Every detail — lotus petals, circular borders, floral motifs — draws the eye toward the heart of the composition, where Basundhara’s divine energy resides. The refined carving and deep relief reflect centuries of artistic tradition preserved within the Kathmandu Valley.
