PATAN MUSEUM EXHIBITION

This statue was part of the exhibition in the Patan Museum: "The Revival of Newari Woodcarving, 2024".

Tara (which in sanskrit means a “star”) is one of the most important figures in Buddhism. She is a representation of the female aspect of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion and according to some versions would have been born from his own tears. She is used as a mediation deity by practitioners for developing some qualities such as compassion, kindness, and love.

There are various manifestations of the Tara deity. Green Tara is one of the most popular representations, together with the White Tara.
