Tara, whose name in Sanskrit means “star”, is one of the most revered figures in Buddhism. She embodies the feminine aspect of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and, according to some traditions, was born from his own tears. In Buddhist practice, Tara is invoked as a meditation deity to help cultivate compassion, kindness, and unconditional love.

There are many manifestations of Tara, but two of the most widely venerated are Green Tara and White Tara.

The green color of Green Tara is symbolic in itself. It is a blend of white, yellow, and blue colors representing the actions of pacifying, increasing, and destroying obstacles, for the protection of all beings. Green embodies enlightened activity, the dynamic expression of wisdom and compassion in action.
